Teenagers, Monsters or your children?

After reading the article “Empty Lives of Teenage Girls” by Dr. Leonard Sax in the popular Canadian news magazine MacLean’s did it make you think, hey I have two teenage girls at home do they fallow the main themes of Dr. Sax’s article? Do they sell there body as a commodity to get what they want, do they use alcohol or mutilate them self’s to deal with stress, should I try to control them more as a solution?

Now in the article Dr. Sax states “Today, so many teenage girls [he’s] spoken to across Canada and the U.S. regard sex as a commodity…” and that “[so] many girls are using their sexuality in an instrumental way [.]” Now The good Doctor may say this but does he have any proof and where does he get his information from? It’s highly unlikely Dr. Sax actually left city areas to more rural towns to get information from there? Just because he says this is happening doesn’t make it true, it’s highly doubtful that girls are “cornering the boys, and giving them blow jobs.” So don’t worry parents this one should be read as fiction.

“36% said they had in the past year cut themselves with razors or burned themselves with matches.” That is another reference in Dr. Sax’s article that is hazed in where he got this statistic. He doesn’t state where he got this information and he has no reference to support himself so disregard that statement. How ever it is believable that “ [today], a girl is at least likely as her brother to abuse alcohol,” but the reasons aren’t that they use it to relive stress , its because girls one have more rights and aren’t frowned upon for using alcohol and two “females metabolize alcohol differently than males, and as a result, a girl having four drinks is the same as a boy having five drinks” and actually that is an understatement going by weight ratio.

Now for the Coup de grace the parenting style. Sax suggests a tighter control and handle on your teen. Being more strict isn’t always the answer. Limiting a teenagers computer time means they get agitated and they find another way on, controlling pictures guess what, they will find another way to post pictures and if they are really vengeful they will find away to post even more carnal pictures as a way of getting back. Let them learn on their own. They will like you more and be better in the long run, no one likes waking up the next morning with a killer head ache and their friends telling them about all the crazy activities they participated in.

Now hopefully you don’t feel like a failure of a parent because of Dr. Sax’s article “Empty Lives of Teenage Girls.” Hopefully this article helped disprove Dr. Sax’s three main ideas, girls are using their body as a commodity, girls are mutilating themselves and abusing alcohol to deal with stress, and his new parenting style.
Treat your teenager as a human being, surprisingly enough they are one.

How free is the freedom of speech?

Living in a free country has many benefits and privileges one of them happens to be the freedom of speech and the freedom to express one's opinion. How far does the arm of those freedoms reach? Right wing speaker Ann Coulter tests the waters and wades out into controversy. In this article her identity is exposed, the controversy is unraveled, her legal rights will be investigated, and an opinion will be formed.

Ann Coulter is well known for her extreme right wing views and opinions. She has been refereed to as a fascist, a racist, and a Nazi. Coulter wasn't always a extreme speaker she has also been the author of many political books, posed for playboy, and wrote columns for many different magazines and papers.

The Wild side of Brennan Boyda

One morning a long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away on a peaceful planet there lived a unlikely hero with his powers in slumber. His name was Brennan Boyda. That morning he woke like any other, however little did he know that his whole life was about to take a ride on the wild side. While walking down the street that fateful morning in a society, which unbeknownst to anyone, was on the brink of a disaster of apocalyptic proportions, a dark figure plowed through our young hero uttering nothing but "this is a doomed planet in need of a hero." This of course confusing the young lad of only 17 years, not really fazing the teenager and was almost all but forgotten with a simple shrug of the shoulders. Later that day however, Brennan saw the man again and he did nothing but whisper the same phrase over and over. By this time our hero decided it was time to confront the man. Being a man of discrepancy that he was, the hero to be slammed the man against the wall holding him with his arm, which resembled a boulder. While holding the man in place, he asked the dark figured "why do you follow me speaking about a hero in need", the man with a hoarse voice told the teenager that he was indeed the hero the planet was in need of and on his 18th birthday the beasts inside him will awaken allowing him to summon the power needed to save the planet from a horrible demise. Brennan hearing this was filled with confusion, being that his birthday was in a mere two weeks away but he decided to wait and see if what the man said was true. So as the two weeks passed the people started to hear of a villain, a man who claimed to be the destroyer of worlds and he called himself the 5th horseman of the apocalypse. This brought fear to many and left the people calling for a hero a man to come and save them and their humble home planet. Then that day as told by the man, Brennan started to feel the power of beasts run through his veins. The ability of animal mimicry had awoken inside him, the power to take the appearance or take on the attributes of any beast large or small, of the planet or of other worlds descent. With the strength of the great ape, and that of a bull, the speed of a cheetah, with the cunning of the fox, and the agility of the monkey which swings high in the trees of the canopy, Brennan called upon the powers saving the planet from this 5th horseman. Sadly he knew that he had to leave for other planets bringing peace to all. This is his gift, this is his curse. Being shot into space the people knew he would be back when the universe was at peace. This tale has been told for generations so no one would forget this valiant guardian of man and beast. Brennan's pod was reported to have crash landed on a planet called earth, and he was reverted to a child in order to survive . Once again on the 18th year of his new birth his powers will awake again to bring peace to that world.
